Nutrition research is about understanding the benefits and disadvantages of eating various nutrients such as macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals). Proteins consist of different combinations of the 20 different amino acids (e.g. Leucine and Valine). Carbohydrates are e.g. glucose, sucrose, galactose, lactose, and fructose. Fats can be saturated, monounsaturated, or polyunsaturated. There are 13 different vitamins and 16 different minerals essential for the human body, but many more exists.
