Nutrition

Nutrition research is about understanding the benefits and disadvantages of eating various nutrients such as macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals). Proteins consist of different combinations of the 20 different amino acids (e.g. Leucine and Valine). Carbohydrates are e.g. glucose, sucrose, galactose, lactose, and fructose. Fats can be saturated, monounsaturated, or polyunsaturated. There are 13 different vitamins and 16 different minerals essential for the human body, but many more exists. All these different nutrients and combinations thereof have a major impact on our health and may both prevent or cause disease. Some of the research topics in nutritional science are:

  • Eating disorders and obesity
  • Metabolism & metabolic diseases
  • Sport and exercise nutrition
  • Nutritional biochemistry
  • Nutrition’s effect on gene regulation
  • Nutritional immunology & food allergy

We welcome researchers to submit articles in all fields relating to nutritional research.
